the golden gate bridge for a time this afternoon. the cause that has protesters heading to the nation's capitol. abc seven news starts now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> they fell victim to the very threat they were protecting. others from the san jose police department is grieving the first of its kind. line of duty death in its history. thanks for joining us. i'm j.r. stone san jose police say a suspected drunk driver hit two of their community service officers. one of them has died. it happened last night on monterey highway and palm avenue in south san jose. abc seven news reporter suzanne fawn tells us the community officers were conducting traffic control for an unrelated crash nearby when the second crash happened >> 81 year old ken sasso picks up garbage and tries to keep

monterey road in south san jose clean, even though he says it's a very dangerous area. >> i have to be very careful. that's for sure. >> on saturday night, san jose police say two of their community service officers or csos were working to control traffic at monterey road and palm avenue because of a crash down the road. a passerby got video of that first accident scene around 8:30 p.m. with all the fire trucks and first responders, they were all lined up here just before 10 p.m, police say a suspected drunk driver crashed into the two csos. the same passerby who saw the first accident scene told us they were surprised to see the second scene. a short while later. they saw first responders performing cpr on one of the csos. police say one officer died from his injuries. the other officer who was seriously hurt, is expected to survive. >> we saw all the all the police cars and fire trucks and so we knew it was pretty bad. >> officers arrested the driver at the scene and they suspect he was driving drunk. the san jose

police department released this statement saying, quote, our entire police family is heartbroken by this line of duty, death and our collective arms around his family, friends and teammates as we cope with this painful incident. neighbor ken sasso says police asked him if they could see his surveillance camera. sasso says monterey road has its issues. another neighbor tells me that police were at her home saturday nights asking to see her home. surveillance video. she says this intersection of palm and monterey has a lot of problems, and there have been many accidents here before. >> i think we need more enforcement of the speed limit along this corridor. nobody goes 55. they go 85, 95, 100, you know. >> san jose police say they're investigating the fatal collision that killed the cso. it's the first time in san jose pd history that a cso has been killed in the line of duty. csos help police respond to and investigate lower priority calls. on monday, acting chief

paul joseph is expected to provide more information about the investigation and the cso killed in south san jose, suzanne phan. abc seven news. >> developing news on the park fire containment of the gigantic wildfire slowly increased overnight. it's gone from 28 to 30%. containment lines have held steady despite hotter temperatures and extreme fire conditions. some light rain fell on the eastern part of the fire, but humidity has dropped and triple digit heat has returned. the fire's acreage has grown to more than 400,000, making it the fourth largest wildfire in state history. it is now 30% contained. flames have destroyed more than 570 structures, evacuated residents are slowly being allowed back like rick piro, who found the remains of his beloved family cat in the ruins of his home in forest ranch in butte county. >> out. there was a chair that

responders urge people not to go into the river without a life jacket if they can't swim. in the south bay, a child suffered burns in a house fire in east san jose. paramedics rushed the child to the hospital. the fire started yesterday afternoon at a home on clyde drive. fire crews posted these pictures and say the flames destroyed the home, damaged a backyard shed and the fence of an adjacent home. no word yet on what ignited this fire. a gps device helped catch a robbery suspect in vallejo, police say on friday, the man assaulted an employee and stole about $3,000 from a safe at a business on sonoma boulevard and redwood street. along with the money, he unknowingly took a gps tracking device. he then went to rob a second nearby business, but officers had his location and arrested him. investigators say he is a convicted felon who was on probation. happening now.

tropical storm debby is racing towards florida and gaining strength. the storm is expected to hit florida as a hurricane overnight, bringing historic amounts of rain to the southeast. abc news reporter faith abubey is in gainesville, florida, where people are bracing for flooding. reporter tropical storm debby rolling towards florida. >> the system is expected to strike the big bend region, where the panhandle meets the peninsula. >> it is going to move very slowly across northern florida and southeast georgia, and the result of that is less going to be a wind event at that point than a rain event. it is going to drop a lot of rain across many parts of the state. >> about 10 million people in its path, more than ten inches of rain in some areas expected, along with fears of life threatening flash floods. storm surges potentially as high as ten feet, more than 1600 flights canceled. >> you can prepare as much as you want, and just kind of

getting some rock and roll love. green day's billie joe armstrong spray painted a green b over an a's logo at rogers center in toronto. armstrong posted the video and his instagram last week. the east bay native used to be a big a's supporter, but has become a big ballers fan since the a's announced their plans to move to las vegas. this is a milestone year for the fremont festival of the arts. this weekend's gathering is the 40th edition of the wildly popular street festival. tens of thousands crowded paseo padre parkway for the annual gathering. train rides, rock climbing and arts and crafts were a few of the many activities the festival was put on by the nonprofit fremont chamber of commerce. an army of 800 volunteers to help put on the festival. >> and they got everything for everybody here for kids to adults, and it's just a great time. but every year it gets busier and busier. so proceeds raised helped local after school

programs, medical research and to fund scholarships in fremont. >> had great weather today. they certainly did. i was just going to say spencer christian looked beautiful out there. >> yeah, it was, you know, many other parts of the bay area, especially near the coast in the in the bay had lingering clouds for much of the day, but it was sunny in fremont, so yay! we're all going to have some sunny days by midweek, but right now we're looking at a fairly substantial marine layer which lingered this morning for several hours, and there was even some drizzle near the coast and bay. but by the afternoon, most places were sunny. it's breezy. right now we have gusts up to 28mph at sfo and surface wind speeds here in san francisco up to 32mph. and it is cooler in virtually all locations right now than at this time yesterday, up to 8 or 10 degrees cooler in some spots because of the cooling effect of that lingering marine layer for much of the day. right now, though, looking down from mount tam, you see lots of blue sky, just a finger of fog reaching out over the bay. 59 degrees here in san francisco right now

we have mid 60s at oakland and hayward, mid to upper 70s at san jose, and redwood city, 57 at half moon bay. here's a view from, well, sort of a view at the golden gate where the fog is getting a little deeper, thicker right now. 79 up north in santa rosa, napa 72 upper 80s at fairfield, concord, livermore, 84 degrees. and let's check out our forecast headlines right now as we look westward from emeryville overnight and into tomorrow morning, we'll have fog and drizzle once again near the coast and bay by afternoon tomorrow, look for a sunny skies and a fairly warm summer pattern, but it'll get a lot warmer tuesday and wednesday. in fact, it's going to get downright hot as we expect some triple digit heat in our inland areas on tuesday and wednesday overnight. look for that deepening, expanding marine layer pushing across the bay locally inland. there'll be lots of patchy drizzle near the coast and some of it will move onshore, so there'll be some spotty drizzle in the early morning hours. but by midday we'll see sunny skies in most locations once again. overnight, low temperatures will be in the mid to upper 50s, and then high temperatures tomorrow will range from low 60s at the coast to mainly mid 70s right around the bay shoreline. maybe a couple of

upper 70s up in the north bay, 78 at richmond going up to napa, 84 degrees 90 tomorrow at santa rosa, inland east bay will feature low to mid 90s. 91 livermore 92. concord 94. at antioch down in the south bay, we'll see a high of 84 at san jose. here's the accuweather seven day forecast tuesday and wednesday. it will be hot inland. certainly several locations are likely to hit 100 degrees on tuesday, maybe 1 or 2 places on wednesday, but certainly some upper 90s inland on wednesday. and then we get a cooling trend starting on thursday and taking us into the weekend as temperatures fall into a much more comfortable range. >> starting with some baseball where the giants were down two. nothing early to the reds today in cincinnati with a man on for matt chapman. at the time, the broadcast was doing an in-game interview with pitcher logan webb, who knew it was a tie game. as soon as the ball left, chapman's bat? well, there you go, chap chapman, center. >> that's got carry, that's gone well, webb, maybe that's what they needed.
