I actually make a conscious effort to not hide who I am or what I think. Simultaneously, I’m making a conscious effort to be respectful. Hence - If it’s an open dialogue I will respectfully disagree, and if it’s an announcement without room for feedback at the moment I will find the time later to voice my opinion via acceptable channels. On occasion I’ve been known to also push the boundaries.

I used to get yelled at my an ex manager because of this. I am such a dramatic, facial expression type person. Breaking a 40 year habit in days is not easy....Sigh.

Wearing a mask in the classroom helped me really well last year - The last thing I want to do is judge students but sometimes 16-year-olds say really bonker things (I assume to get my reaction). My face couldn't help it!

My dog was scared to death last night. He died. And then he came back to life. . .Boba (short for Boba-Fett) was absolutely terrified by all the fireworks last night. We have a corner house and we were surrounded - they were going off on all sides of us for hours. He followed me everywhere (even to the toilet) and ensured his body was touching mine 100% of the time. I could feel him trembling non-stop. Periodically, he would make these odd sounds that just let me know that he was having GI issues too. His anxiety was very high. I tried my best to soothe him - white noise, music, and massaged him. I didn't even take my kids out to the park for fireworks because I couldn't leave Boba. Bedtime arrived. I tucked him into his bed (which is on the floor, next to my bed). He obediently stayed there, but because he was up against the frame of my bed, his shaking was vibrating my whole bed too. After about 5 minutes, I relented and called him up to my bed. I curled up around him and soothingly spoke to him and we both fell asleep. I woke up with a start at 3:07 and felt like something was very wrong. I put my hand on his chest and he wasn't breathing. All was still. Deathly still. I counted to 30.No breathing. I got up from bed and he didn't move at all. Not even a hair. No doggy-ear lift or crack of the eyelid to see what I was up to. Nothing.I went to the bathroom and began to cry, feeling awful that I hadn't been able to protect my senior dog from the noise and being so frightened. I figured his heart had stopped from the high levels of anxiety. I thought about how I had to call my ex and let him know that I had our 60lb dog, dead in my bed. I thought about what I was going to say to my kids in the morning. And most of all, I was so heartbroken that I missed out on a few years of life with this amazing creature because people in my neighborhood just had to have fireworks. A few minutes passed and I washed my face off, prepping myself to go make a very hard phone call. As I walked back over to my bed, Boba rolled over and started wagging his tail. WTAF - in all the best ways! I jumped into bed next to him and gave him all the hugs while I laughed and cried in utter relief. I fell back asleep with him but kept waking up to check his breathing. And you know what I found out? Sometimes, he'd breathe 15x a minute, and other times, he'd go 60+ seconds without breathing. I guess he has sleep apnea?! I'm not sure. I will follow up with the vet, but I've never witnessed him not breathing for this amount of time before. Maybe it was anxiety-induced. In any case - I'm so, SO very grateful that he has lived to see another day and it's not yet time to say goodbye to my buddy. Was it a miracle? I don't know, but I'm considering it one. Please, consider your fireworks usage for people and animals, especially on the neighborhood streets where there is no escape.Long live Boba-Fett! #JessDoIt 💎

Being a good person is a choice 💯 Don’t ever believe that good people never have mean thoughts, aren't tempted to flip someone off, travel the low road, and just be selfish.Don't ever believe a person is just inherently good without making a conscious effort to be so!Every single time you do something good, you’ve made a decision to make the world a little brighter 🌞 🌞 Goodness is not an inherent trait, it is a choice! ❤️ #Choice #BeKind #LoveMakeaTheWorldGoRound #JessDoIt 💎

It's finally here!!! Today is the day - my daughter's Gotcha Day! - the day she arrived home from the hospital to us, her forever family!!We fostered her for over 3 years before she became available to adopt. Can you imagine holding a baby, watching them take their first steps, tucking them in nightly, caring for them when they're sick...and never knowing if they were going to be yours? The goal of foster care is almost always reunification, but in the meantime, these children deserve and need to be loved as if they are your own. Oh, the nightmares I used to have - I was so frightened she'd be taken away. But I also knew that I signed up for this. And if she had been reunified with her biological family, it would have hurt terribly. But I also would have no regrets. How can you ever regret loving someone, especially a child? We all need love, but especially our children. We never own someone just because we love them. Foster care is a great teacher of this lesson. My girl is 11 now and there's not a single day that I don't love her to the moon and back. I'm forever grateful that I received the honor to be her mother. But like her, I also carry a deep sadness in me. I was in the courtroom when the bio parental rights were terminated. I felt the bio mom's heart break. I cried my eyes out, right alongside her. I don't have to imagine the pain of having a child legally taken away. I was there. I felt it. Adoption is beautiful, but make no mistake - it's heartbreaking in a way that you simply cannot comprehend if you haven't done it. All the same, my life is so #blessed because of my children. There are almost 500,000 children in the system right now, and each day, that number is going up as women have less access to reproductive care. Reach out to me with questions about Fostering and Adopting. I am happy to share more with you. #NoRegrets#Adoption#FosterCare#FosterAndAdopt#JessDoIt
